Strategic Writer
We are seeking an experienced Strategic Writer to support the delivery of high-profile Defence capability initiatives within a complex and strategically significant environment.
Working on-site in Canberra, you will partner with senior stakeholders to analyse complex challenges, develop evidence-based recommendations, and produce high-quality strategic documentation that informs decision-making and supports capability outcomes.
This is an opportunity to contribute to nationally significant Defence priorities, helping shape strategic initiatives through clear analysis, compelling written advice, and stakeholder engagement.
Key Responsibilities
As a Strategic Writer, you will:
- Analyse complex capability, policy and organisational challenges.
- Translate technical and strategic information into clear, concise and persuasive written products.
- Develop high-quality strategic advice aligned to Defence and broader government priorities.
- Support the development of business cases, capability proposals and approval documentation.
- Engage with stakeholders to understand requirements, build consensus and support decision-making.
- Lead the preparation, review and quality assurance of strategic reports, briefings and submissions.
- Provide structured analysis and recommendations to support capability planning and investment decisions.
Skills & Experience
We are looking for professionals with:
- Demonstrated experience developing strategic documents, briefings, submissions or business cases within Government or Defence environments.
- Strong analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving capabilities.
- Exceptional written communication skills, with the ability to distil complex information into clear and compelling narratives.
- Experience engaging stakeholders and influencing outcomes across diverse groups.
- Understanding of Defence capability development, approval and investment processes.
- Experience within Defence environments, particularly Navy, will be highly regarded.
- The ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining a high standard of quality and attention to detail.
- An active NV1 Security Clearance is required.
