Systems Engineer
Overview
We are seeking experienced Systems Engineers to support the delivery of complex programs within the National Security portfolio.
These roles focus on ensuring Defence and Government stakeholders receive the capability outcomes they require. Working across the capability lifecycle, you will help define stakeholder needs, manage requirements, support capability assurance activities, and ensure solutions delivered by suppliers and project teams meet operational expectations.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing consultancy and contribute to high-impact programs that support Australia’s national security objectives.
About the Role
As a Systems Engineer, you will work closely with sponsors, project teams, technical specialists, and industry partners to ensure capability outcomes align with stakeholder requirements.
Rather than undertaking detailed engineering design activities, you will focus on the systems engineering processes that drive successful capability delivery, including requirements management, integration, verification, validation, and lifecycle assurance. These activities align with recognised Systems Engineering practices and the ISO/IEC 15288 Systems Life Cycle framework.
Key Responsibilities
- Engage with stakeholders to understand, analyse, and manage capability requirements.
- Ensure stakeholder needs remain aligned with delivered solutions throughout the capability lifecycle.
- Support requirements management, verification, validation, and capability acceptance activities.
- Identify and manage risks, issues, dependencies, and integration challenges.
- Provide systems engineering assurance and advice to support informed decision-making.
- Work collaboratively with project teams, suppliers, and Defence stakeholders to achieve successful capability outcomes.
About You
You are an experienced Systems Engineer who enjoys working at the intersection of stakeholders, delivery teams, and capability outcomes. You understand that successful systems engineering is not simply about designing systems—it is about ensuring the right capability is delivered to meet the customer’s needs and that those needs remain visible throughout the lifecycle.
Essential
- Experience working as a Systems Engineer within Defence, Government, National Security, or other complex environments.
- Demonstrated experience in requirements development, management, and traceability.
- Experience supporting verification, validation, integration, or capability assurance activities.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
- Experience identifying and managing risks, issues, assumptions, and dependencies.
Desirable
- Experience working within Defence capability acquisition or sustainment environments.
- Familiarity with systems engineering lifecycle frameworks, including ISO/IEC 15288.
- Experience with requirements management tools and engineering governance processes.
- Exposure to capability assurance, test and evaluation, or acceptance activities.
- INCOSE certification or equivalent Systems Engineering experience.
What We Offer
- A role within a well-established and growing professional services consultancy.
- Ongoing professional development support.
- Opportunities to work on high-impact Government and Defence programs.
- Four additional wellbeing days per year.
- Access to a personal goal-setting program.
- A collaborative and supportive team environment.
- Opportunities to participate in social and community activities.
