Overview

We are seeking experienced Wintel Engineers to support the design, build, and sustainment of secure Windows server environments across complex government programs.

This role will see you working across both project delivery and operational support, contributing to the implementation and ongoing performance of critical ICT infrastructure in secure environments.

About the role

You will play a hands-on role in delivering and maintaining Microsoft-based infrastructure, supporting both new capability builds and existing operational systems.

Working within a broader engineering and delivery team, you will contribute across the full lifecycle – from solution design and server build through to ongoing optimisation and Level 3 support.

Key responsibilities include:

• Designing, building and configuring Windows Server environments across physical and virtual platforms (VMware / Hyper‑V)
• Supporting Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS and core Microsoft services
• Contributing to low-level design documentation, build guides and operational artefacts
• Implementing server hardening, patching, and security configurations aligned to best practice
• Supporting system integration and deployment activities within project environments
• Providing Level 3 support across incident, problem and change management
• Performing root cause analysis, troubleshooting and ongoing system optimisation
• Maintaining platform health through patching, upgrades, monitoring and capacity management
• Working closely with architects, project teams and security stakeholders to ensure alignment with technical and security requirements
• Supporting continuous improvement across system performance, resilience and operational efficiency

About you

To be successful in this role, you will bring strong hands-on experience working within Windows-based infrastructure environments, ideally within government or other highly regulated settings.

You will be comfortable working across both build and run activities, with the ability to contribute to project delivery while supporting operational environments.

You will demonstrate:

• Proven experience building and administering Windows Server environments
• Strong knowledge of Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS and enterprise Microsoft platforms
• Experience working with virtualisation technologies (VMware and/or Hyper‑V)
• Ability to troubleshoot, support and optimise production systems
• Experience contributing to technical documentation and system builds
• Strong communication skills and ability to work across technical and non-technical stakeholders

Desirable experience:

• Familiarity with Australian Government security frameworks (ISM, ASD Essential Eight)
• Exposure to secure or defence environments
• ITIL Foundation or experience working within ITIL-aligned service environments
• Relevant certifications (e.g. Microsoft, VMware)
